Winter Wilderness Vacations Welcome to the Gunflint Trail, northern Minnesota's winter recreation paradise. Winter activities include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and plenty of boreal birds and wildlife to observe. The Gunflint Trail is a pristine wilderness where more than 110 inches of snow falls annually on our woods and recreation trails. (Check the snow report, and check the weather - it's always a Vacation of a Different Nature here.)

Snowmobile Adventure Completely separate from the ski trails, the main snowmobile artery runs about parallel to the Gunflint Trail for over 60 miles. Spur trails wind their way through the woods in scenic loops.
Other activities include sleigh rides, fine dining, tipi campfires, and restful hours curled up by the fireplace with a good book or some good company. Follow the links to winter adventure!

Adventures in Winter Wilderness Cross-country skiers enjoy nearly 200km of signed, groomed, and tracked trails. Trails vary to match a skier's expertise, from novice to expert. Skate skiing is offered over much of the system, and lighted trails for night skiing are here, as well. For snowshoers, the Gunflint Trail is a winter haven. Explore the snowy trails and woods, or go into the backcountry and explore the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (day permits are easily accessible and required). Real winter excitement awaits those venturing out for a dog sled ride. Rides are offered from just a taste (a hour) to a day-long trip. There are even mushing lessons for the truly adventurous.
