Gunflint Trai White-tailed Deer Winter Wilderness Vacations
Welcome to the Gunflint Trail, northern Minnesota's winter recreation paradise. Winter activities include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and plenty of boreal birds and wildlife to observe. The Gunflint Trail is a pristine wilderness where more than 110 inches of snow falls annually on our woods and recreation trails. (Check the snow report, and check the weather - it's always a Vacation of a Different Nature here.)

Ice fishing is great on many of the Gunflint Trail area lakes - pull a tasty lake trout up from the cold, clear waters. (Gear and licenses are available in the area.)
Gunflint Trail Dogsledding Adventures Adventures in Winter Wilderness
Cross-country skiers enjoy nearly 200km of signed, groomed, and tracked trails. Trails vary to match a skier's expertise, from novice to expert. Skate skiing is offered over much of the system, and lighted trails for night skiing are here, as well. For snowshoers, the Gunflint Trail is a winter haven. Explore the snowy trails and woods, or go into the backcountry and explore the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (day permits are easily accessible and required). Real winter excitement awaits those venturing out for a dog sled ride. Rides are offered from just a taste (a hour) to a day-long trip. There are even mushing lessons for the truly adventurous.
